Patch Fit
Turn the patches and drop them on the board until it is covered exactly: no gaps, no overlaps. Pinned patches are already in their place.
The rules
- 1Pick a patch
Tap a patch in the tray below the board to pick it up.
- 2Turn it
Turn it with the Turn button or R. On hard boards you may also flip it over with Flip or F.
- 3Drop it
Tap the board to drop it: the leftmost square of its top row lands where you tap. The ghost shows where it would go, red where it cannot.
- 4Cover everything
Tap a patch on the board to pick it back up. The puzzle is solved when every square is covered exactly once.
Controls
- Mouse / touch
- Tap a patch in the tray, then tap the board to drop it. Tap a placed patch to pick it up again.
- Keyboard
- 1–9 pick a patch, arrow keys move it, R or Space turns it, F flips it (hard), Enter drops it. Ctrl+Z undoes.
Tips
- Start in the corners and along the edges: they fit the fewest shapes.
- Pinned patches (the hatched ones) are clues — the squares around them are the most constrained on the board.
- Place the awkward shapes first. The neat ones are easier to fit into whatever space is left.
- A one-square gap is never something to patch over — pick up the last piece instead.
The patches add up to the board exactly, so a single gap at the end means a piece went down wrong several moves ago.
A board and a tray of odd-shaped patches that cover it exactly. Turn them, drop them, and fill the board with no gap left over and no patch on top of another. A pinned patch or two starts in place as a clue, and exactly one arrangement works.
Common questions
What kind of puzzle is Patch Fit?
A tiling puzzle: a fixed board, a fixed set of shapes, and exactly one way to lay them so the board is covered with no gaps and no overlaps.
What are the hatched patches?
Pinned patches. They start in their final place and cannot be moved; they are the clues that make the answer unique, the way givens do in sudoku.
Can patches be flipped as well as turned?
Only on hard. Easy and medium patches can be turned but not mirrored, which keeps their shapes easier to read.
Will the daily be the same for everyone?
Yes. One board a day, generated at 00:00 UTC and shared by every player, so times compare directly on the leaderboard.
